ILOILO CITY: Panay and Negros Occidental trade union members and officers signed a resolution for worker’s protection. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reported in a news release that 62 union members and officers from the 25 unions in Western Visayas signed a resolution calling for the protection of their right to organize and collectively bargain in all sectors and industries, and to stop harassment of union leaders, organizers and members, and all other parties affiliated to it. DOLE reported that the resolution was signed while the Workers’ Congress was ongoing at the Henry Luce III Building, at Iloilo City’s Central Philippine University. The Workers’ Congress gave participants a chance to raise concerns, engage organized companies in outsourcing of services, driving for nonimplementation of some provisions from the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), alteration of CBA provisions, among other important issues. According to DOLE, the congress is held as part of the 2013 Labor Month celebration and as a tribute to the laborers to recognize their significant contribution to the development of the country.
