The Philippine Swimming League (PSL) named 28 Mindanao tankers who made the qualifying time for the 2017 Summer World University Games to be held in Taipei, Taiwan.
Christian Paul Anor (boys’ 15-16), Kierl Suazo (boys’ 17-over) and Mae Pajarito (girls’ 17-over) topped the list after their impressive showing in the 81st PSL National Series – Davao Swim Meet held at the Tagum City Sports Complex.
Agosto Blanco III, Louise Margaret Cabotan, Mives Shanine Castillo, Christian Catacutan, Monica Cervo, Girly Estares, Brendel Florendo, Lorenzo Garcia, Joshua Gulayan, Jeff Kasim, Peter Lontoc, Joseph Lozano, Gerald Magardia and Yvone Mayo also qualified in the world meet.
The other swimmers who reached the qualifying mark were Juan Antonio Mendoza, Ian Gabriel Natividad, Ray Michael Ocampo, Lorenzo Palacios, Arvin Pormillos, Mohammad Sahiron, Alhaber Saimodin, Ian Rex Timtim, Leah Turdos, Ann Valdez and Jeboy Villar.
“We’re happy to see smiles when we introduced the World University Games to them. It’s about time to get representatives from the Mindanao region in such big competitions because we believe that there are lots of talented swimmers in that area,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
The PSL will be going to the Bicol Region for the 82nd PSL National Series dubbed as the 3rd El Presi¬dente Swim Cup scheduled on Saturday at the Mariner’s Polytechnic Colleges Foundation Pool in Legazpi City.
Besides the World University Games, the competition will serve as qualifying for international tournaments such as the 2015 Royal Bangkok Swim Meet, 2016 Phuket Invitational Swimming Championship and the 2016 Indian Ocean All Star Challenge in Perth, Australia.
