ILOILO CITY: A total of 29 young Ilonggo students from nine public and private schools in this city were adjudged as winners in four international competitions on mathematics held recently in China.
For their feat, the local city government led by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog gave each student a certificate of recognition for bringing home the honor and prestige of representing Iloilo City in the world stage of mathematics.
The mayor said the victory also manifested the high quality standards of teaching in the city.
Among the winners are Alexis Griff Genovatin, Grade 2 student of Ateneo de Iloilo; and Alijah Dale Valbuena, Grade 2 student of SPED Integrated School, each with a King of Mathematics merit and Pan Pacific Mathematics Olympiad merit award held from June 28 to July 1, 2014 in Hong Kong.
Also romping with the awards are Maxie Louise Dominque Co of Ateneo de Iloilo, bronze award; and Mickel Lyle Angelo Pe of Philippine Science High School with merit at the 17th Po Leung Kuk Primary World Cup Contest 2014 held on July 13-28, 2014 also in Hong Kong.
Not to be outdone are Altair Mizar Emboltura, Grade 4 student of Sto Domingo Elem. School, Gold Award; Ron Raphael Magno, Grade 4 student of West Visayas State University-ILS, bronze medal; and Rene John Ongchua, Grade 4 student of Solomon Integrated School de Iloilo, silver medal.
Kyle Marie Lustica, Grade 5 student of West Visayas State University-ILS, silver medal; Jose Gabriel Javellana, Grade 7 student of Philippines Science High School, silver medal; Jonathan Murga, Grade 8 student of Philippine Science High School; silver medal; and Sean Rafael Puda, Grade 5 student of Paref-Westbridge School, bronze medal, who all won at the Hua Cup International Olympic Mathematics and 10th Asia Cup Stars of the Olympics Math finals held on July 19-24, 2014 also in Hong Kong.
The other winners are Daryll Kevin Uygongco, Grade 6 student of Hua Siong College of Iloilo, gold medal; Cassey Jules Uygongco, Grade 5 student of Hua Siong College of Iloilo, silver medal; and Frelan Faith Engallado, Grade 4 student of Solomon Integrated School de Iloilo, bronze medal, at the I Love Math Summer Camp held July 26-29, 2014 in Hangzhou City, China.
