ROXAS CITY: Three children drowned while they were swimming in a river in Barangay Dayao here on Saturday morning.
A belated police report identified the victims as John Michael Antonio, 11; Gerry Libo-on, 10; and Kent John Astrolabio, 6, all of Barangay Dayao, this city. They were declared dead upon arrival at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
SPO1 Charlemagne Tupaz of the Roxas City Police station said that unknown to their parents, the three minors went to the river at around 9 a.m. on Saturday to take a bath.
Police learned that upon reaching the river, the six-year-old Kent dived into the river first and drowned.
Upon seeing the beleaguered Kent, John Michael and Gerry also dived into the river in an attempt to rescue the boy but they also drowned due to the strong water current.
Local residents and volunteer rescuers retrieved the bodies of the victims. PNA
