ABUCAY, Bataan: Three persons died while two others were injured after a delivery van and the tricycle they were riding slammed into each other along the Roman Superhighway in the village of Mabatang in Abucay, Bataan province on Friday noon.
Rescue workers under the City Public Safety Office of Balanga and police officers from Abucay brought the casualties to the nearest hospital.
Dead on the spot were tricycle driver Rauf Malawi Bongcarawan and woman passenger identified only as Jalil; both from Balanga City and Glenn Alagase, one of the three passengers of the delivery van.
Injured and rushed to the Bataan General Hospital were Jose Alagase and JR Amador, driver and helper of the van, respectively; both from Manila.
The vehicle that just delivered truck spare parts in Balanga was bound for Olongapo City while the tricycle was heading for Balanga. From the right lane, the van swerved to the left, crashed on the tricycle, hit a road sign and turned turtle.
The two vehicles were heavily damaged and rested on the canal by the roadside.
Investigations are still ongoing to pinpoint what really happened, Abucay police said.
