ILOILO CITY: Three separate fires hit several areas in this city in two days, killing a woman and destroying houses made from light materials. On Tuesday, a fire broke along a coastal area in Barangay Calaparan, Molo district, damaging six houses. On Monday, another fire gutted a commercial establishment along busy Aldeguer Street. This establishment is within the central business district here and declared by the National Historical Institute as a heritage site along with the nearby Iloilo central public market. At 2 p.m., also on Monday, yet another fire broke out in a depressed area in Barangay Boulevard, also in Molo district, with an unidentified woman reported dead and more than 200 families displaced. A total of 42 houses made from light materials were razed to the ground while seven houses were partly destroyed. Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog ordered temporary evacuation of the families to a nearby school and barangay hall. A team from the city social welfare and development office and the city health office was dispatched to help the displaced families.
