An explosion in an upscale residential condominium in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig killed three people several minutes past 8 Friday night, officials reported.
Four people were also injured in the blast in Two Serendra, and one of them is a foreigner, Interior Secretary Mar Roxas told a press briefing about five hours later.
The wounded were taken to the St. Luke’s Medical Center, not far from Two Serendra.
President Benigno Aquino 3rd visited the scene of the incident to get firsthand reports from officials.
The explosion came from the one of the units on the condominium’s fifth floor. Roxas said he was told one of the wounded was found at the door of the unit.
A concrete slab loosened by the powerful blast fell on a delivery van that was passing Two Serendra, crushing its three occupants.
The Ayala Land Real Estate website describes Two Serendra as having 22 floors. The sprawling building complex is across the street from the Market Market mall.
Roxas said the residents of the condominium were evacuated while investigators try to determine what caused the explosion. He said the building’s electricity and gas have been cut off as a safety measure.
He said the blast hurled a retaining wall across the street. “That’s how powerful it was,” he said.
Roxas said the police has the names of the wounded but will not release them until their next of kin have been notified.
He said there will be another press briefing on the incident Saturday morning.
