LEGAZPI CITY: Two children and a barangay chairman of Ragay town in Camarines Sur were killed in a car mishap on Monday evening involving seven vehicles.

The fatalities were identified as four-year-old Alea Liana Saraza of Barangay Poblacion Ilawod, Alejandro Purca, 8, of Lower Sta. Cruz and Joseph Cater, Association of Barangay Councils president in Ragay town, Camarines Sur.

Aside from the three fatalities, three policemen and 31 persons—mostly passengers of a bus heading to Naga City —were injured. They were brought to the Bicol Medical Center and Mother Sitton Hospital for immediate treatment.

Chief Insp. Ariel Blanco, Ragay town police chief, said the incident took place at 7 p.m. on Monday along Rolando Andaya Highway at Barangay Lower Sta. Cruz in Ragay, Camarines Sur.

Before the accident, Blanco said his men were responding to a reported vehicular incident involving a motorcycle and a tricycle around 6 p.m. in the same area.

When the police patrol car was about to leave the area, a speeding 10 wheeler dump truck hit a Mitsubishi Adventure driven by Melvin Mantuano Estrope some 300 meters away from Barangay Lower Sta. Cruz.

After hitting the SUV, the dump truck also hit the Mahindra patrol car of Ragay police station and a southbound R. Volante Bus Line, driven by Dodong Biato.

Cater was only responding to the incident when he and the two children were hit by the speeding truck driven by Jose “Badong” Sinfuego Jr.

Blanco said the driver is under their custody while charges are being readied against him.
