The city government of Makati on Monday gave a cash gift of P100,000 to three women who turned 100 last year.
Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay led the awarding ceremony for the three widows who were born in 1914—Paz D. Garcia of Barangay La Paz, Irene R. Carrillo of Brgy. Valenzuela, and Rizalina B. Cardenas of Brgy. Dasmariñas.
“The life stories of these new honorees speak of admirable strength, courage and hard work. Most of all, they epitomize the selfless love of a mother for her children. They are certainly an inspiration to us all, especially to the youth of today,” Binay said.
Garcia, born on October 20, 1914, was married to Aurelio N. Garcia. When her husband died in 1958, she worked in a garment factory in Binondo to support her six children. At present, she is being taken care of by her daughters.
Carrillo, who was born on October 18, 1914 in Maragondon, Cavite, was a licensed pharmacist. Cardenas, who celebrated her 100th birthday on December 30, 2014, also raised her three children by herself because her husband was killed during World War II while serving in the Medical Corps of the USAFFE.
So far, 21 centenarians have been given P100,000 by the city government.
