3 Marines killed in Cavite road accident

THREE Philippine Marines personnel and a civilian military employee were killed and six others were injured when the M35 truck they were riding fell off a cliff in Ternate Cavite on Wednesday.

Navy spokesman Col. Edgard Arevalo said the truck with 10 passengers left the Marine Base Gregorio Lim early in the morning to go to the market.

On its way back at about 9:30 a.m., the truck fell into a deep ravine while negotiating the zig-zag road at the vicinity of Kantuba Hill in Ternate. Initial reports indicated that the military truck lost its brake.

The identities of the dead were withheld by the military pending the notification of their relatives. Those injured are being treated at the Marine’s station hospital and a private hospital in Naic.

“We mourn the loss of three Philippine Marine Corps personnel and a civilian employe who are all stationed in Marine Base Gregorio Lim in Ternate, Cavite,” said Arevalo.

He said Navy commander Vice Admiral Jesus Millan and the Marine Corps Commandant Maj. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo have expressed their sincere condolences to the victims’ families.
