Three Metro Manila football teams are set to compete in the 2016 Philippine University Games (UniGames) to be held at the Perdices Stadium in Dumaguete starting today.
The three squads are the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, the De La Salle University Green Archers and the College Of Saint Benilde Blazers.
UP is the reigning University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) champion while La Salle is also a UAAP member. Saint Benilde, on the other hand, is a National Collegiate Athletic Association member.
Dumaguete’s Siliman University will be on the run to contend for the title in this year’s UniGames.
Consequently, defending champions University of Saint La Salle Bacolod has announced earlier this month that they will be skipping this year’s UniGames.
The Fighting Maroons are expected to push hard led by Azkals standout Daniel Gadia, Kintaro Miyagi and JB Borlongan.
On the other hand, the Green Archers and the Blazers will be looking to bank on their championship experience to trounce their opposition in the four-team tourney.
The Siliman Stallions, who is coming back from a five-year hiatus, is expected to be the favorite, as they will be playing in front of their home crowd.
