THE Philippine National Police (PNP) has arrested another vendor of fake cigarettes in Barangay Santa Barbara in Victoria, Tarlac as the government continues to intensify its campaign against contraband products.
Nabbed were Loriza Guerrero of Matias District in Talavera, Nueva Ecija; Romart Bondoc, 16, of Barangay Pula, also in Talavera; and a 13-year-old minor who were taken into police custody after they were caught in the act of selling fake Mighty Corp. and Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corp. (PMFTC) products such as Mighty, Marvel, Marlboro and Fortune cigarettes.
Police Officer 3 Homer Puzon and PO1 Ely Cinense responded to the complaint of a concerned citizen about a suspicious unmarked Mitsubishi L300 FB vehicle (RNF-913) in Victoria that turned out to be loaded with fake cigarettes.
When intercepted along Victoria-Licab road, the vehicle yielded multiple boxes containing 600 reams of different Mighty and PMFTC brand cigarettes.
A Mighty representative who was called to the police station confirmed the products were fake.
The suspects were charged with violating Section 155 of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
The minor was released pursuant to Republic Act 9344 (Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act) while Bondoc was found to have acted with discernment of the crime for which he is being charged.
