Three Filipino netters were booted out of contention in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Challenger Tour on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
Francis Casey Alcantara succumbed to Amir Weintraub of Israel, 1-6, 3-6, while Jeson Patrom¬bon lost to his Belgian opponent Kimir Coppejans, 2-6, 2-6.
“I played pretty well. I started very good and it went pretty easy for me. He [Alcantara] started to serve better [in second set]. He did better points but the moment I broke his play, I’m in control,” said Weintraub.
Alcantara will continue his campaign in the doubles match with Indonesian partner Christo¬pher Rungkat.
They will face the top-seeded pair of Ilija Bozoljac of Serbia and Andreas Siljestrom of Sweden.” They’re all good here and we are lucky enough to be included in the main draw and play with them,” said Alcantara, a former Australian Open juniors doubles champion.
The 16-year old Alberto Lim Jr. was the first Filipino casualty when he suffered a 4-6, 0-6 defeat at the hands of David Guez of France on Monday night.
Davis Cup veteran Ruben Gonza¬les was scheduled to play Igor Sijsling of the Netherlands on Tuesday night in the tournament that offers a whopping $75,000 total prize fund.
