Three Filipino tracksters will be gunning for honors in the 2015 Asian Athletic Association Grand Prix Series to be held in three different venues in Thailand.
The first leg of the three-leg series was scheduled on Monday night at the National Stadium in Bangkok while the second leg will be on June 25 at the Thammasat University in Phatum Thani. The Province Stadium in Chanthaburi hosts the final leg on June 29.
Singapore Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist Edgardo Alejan Jr. and former SEA Games champion Archand Christian Bagsit take part in the men’s 400-meter run while Katherin Kay Santos participates in the women’s 100m dash.
The 24-year-old Bagsit guns for medal in Heat 1-Finals against Sajin Vijyakumaran and Mahdi Zamani of Iran, Rajiv Arokya of India, Zaikov Sergey and Dima Korobelnikov of Kazakhstan, and Zhu Chenbin of China.
Alejan, on the other hand, battles Li Xiao Long of China, Saharat Sammayan, Kunanon Sukkaew and Srikharin Wannasa of Thailand, Quach Cong Lich of Vietnam, and Hewa Kumarage of Sri Lanka in Heat 2-Finals.
The times in heats one and two will be combined to determined the medalists.
For her part, Santos will be up against Faraneh Fasehl of Iran, Aini NIafatul of Indonesia, and Wanwisa Kongthong, Sureewan Runan and Parichat Charoensuk of Thailand.
The Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association was the country’s most bemedalled national sports association in the 2015 Southeast Asian Games winning five golds, seven silvers and nine bronzes.
