Three Filipino karateka will compete in the 12th Shotokan Karatedo International Federation (SKIF) World Championships slated on August 26 to 28 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Filipino-Irish Ryan James Eamonn with Sandino Miguel Garcia and Ninel Thyra Garcia will carry the Philippine flag in their first international competition.
The three karateka will see action in the kumite (sparring) event. The tournament is expecting 800 competitors from 55 different countries.
“On behalf of the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF), we are hoping that they will perform their best and make us proud,” PKF Secretary General Raymund Lee Reyes told The Manila Times on Wednesday.
Reyes said all three karate players are medalists in different national meets including the Batang Pinoy.The 41-year old Eamonn is the oldest member of the three-man Philippine team. PKF Executive Committee member Emman Valez, which will also act as coach of the team, will lead the Filipino delegation.
Last week, Orencio James De Los Santos successfully defended his Male Individual Kata title in the 3rd World Shotocup in Cape Town, South Africa.
