THREE of the nine policemen who figured in the alleged extortion incident along EDSA in Mandaluyong City last year pleaded not guilty on Thursday to the charges filed against them.
Senior Inspector Marco Polo Estrera, Police Officers 2 Jerome Datinguinoo and Mark de Paz entered their pleas during their arraignment at the sala of Judge Carlos Valenzuela of the Mandaluyong Regional Trial Court Branch 213.
Estrera, De Paz and Datinguinoo were implicated in the ambush of a kidnap suspect, Rolando Fajardo, in Calamba, Laguna province in June.
The family of Fajardo earlier offered a P3 million reward for the arrest of the three police officers.
Three other policemen — Chief Insp. Joseph de Vera, Senior Insp. Allan Emlano and Police Officer 2 Jonathan Rodriguez — also pleaded not guilty in August.
The incident became viral late last year after a motorist who snapped a photo of the incident uploaded the image on social media.
The photo showed three vehicles flanking another car while at least five armed men believed to be the suspects pointing their guns at the cornered SUV.
Mandaluyong police assistant chief for administration Supt. Cresencio Landicho said the petition for bail and pre-trial of De Vera, Emlano and Rodriguez has been rescheduled on October 8.
