THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that three earthquakes struck off the coast of Sarangani Province early Tuesday morning.
The first quake was recorded at magnitude 6.4 and struck at 12:37 a.m. of Tuesday. The epicentre was recorded 313 kilometers southeast of Sarangani in Southern Mindanao with depth of focus at 29 kilometers.
Intensity 1 was also felt in Alabel, Sarangani.
A 6.9 magnitude quake followed 60 seconds after, with the epicenter located 249 km southeast, off the coast of Sarangani, with a depth of 102 km.
The third temblor, at magnitude 4.7, was recorded at 1:01 a.m. some 312 km southeast of Sarangani with depth of focus at 17 kilometers.
Phivolcs said all the shocks were tectonic in origin.
There was no reported damage from the event but the agency said there will be expected aftershocks.
