THREE rookie policemen and their informer who also introduced himself as a cop were arrested by their own colleagues after they tried to extort from a homosexual and a man in Quezon City last Wednesday.
Supt. Pedro Sanchez, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 2 commander, identified the suspects as Police Officer 1 (PO1) Ryan Parungo, Rommel Biag, and Dennis Maagda all detailed as elements of the mobile patrol division of QCPD Station 9 and a police asset, John Dominic Laudio, who posed as “PO1 Panal.”
Their victim, Renato Bautista, narrated that he and a certain Renz who turned out to be a police asset of the group, were nabbed around midnight on June 12 along Commonwealth Avenue near the Quezon Memorial Circle for a concocted “public scandal” charges and were brought inside a mobile car for interrogation.
They were later taken to a nearby automated teller machine after the suspects checked the victim’s bag and found an ATM card.
Bautista added that he was told to withdraw P25,000 before they are freed but his ATM card was empty.
Then, the victim claimed he was brought by the group to his friend’s house in Victoria Towers along Timog Avenue and was instructed to borrow money.
The suspects decided to leave Bautista in the custody of Laudio whom he managed to convince that he would produce the money by noon.
The suspects were arrested after receiving the marked money from Sanchez’s man.
