DAVAO CITY — Three members of 46th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army were reportedly killed in a road accident that took place early morning on Wednesday in the province of Compostela Valley, an official said Thursday.
The soldiers were from Tagum City and heading towards Mabini town when the single motorcycle they were riding collided with a truck, Captain Rhyan Batchar, chief of the information office of 10th Infantry (Agila) Division of the Army said in a phone interview.
Batchar said the soldiers were proceeding to their detachment when the accident happened at around 5:30 a.m. along the Davao City – Mati City National Highway in Barangay San Antonio in Mabini.
The local police office in Mabini town identified the soldiers killed as PFC Renato Cabigas, PFC Reynan Viray and the motorcycle driver, Corporal Jerry Baris.
Batchar said the bodies of the soldiers were turned over to their respective families.
He added that the truck, loaded with copra, was heading towards Panabo City when the accident happened.
Batchar said the truck driver has surrendered to authorities. ALEXANDER D. LOPEZ
