• 3 soldiers wounded in Sayyaf clash

ZAMBOANGA CITY: Some Abu Sayyaf rebels ambushed an army patrol, wounding 3 soldiers in Patikul town, Sulu province on Friday. Sulu Provincial Police Director Abraham Orbita said the soldiers, belonging to the 35th Infantry Battalion, were in a convoy to Jolo, Sulu when the Moro rebels attacked them at Bungkaong village, Patikul. The attack, he added, sparked a 30 minute fire-fight against the rebels led by a certain ‘Ajang-Ajang’ and the Lucky 9 group, whose members were mostly young “drug-using” men. Marine Capt. Maria Rowena Muyuela said the wounded soldiers are now in stable condition after treatment. She added that Col. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, ordered his troops to pursue the Sayyaf rebels.
