President Benigno Aquino 3rd has declared January 15, 16 and 19, 2015 special holidays in Metro Manila (National Capital Region or NCR).
Aquino signed Proclamation 936 declaring those three days “as special non-working days in the National Capital Region.”
Pope Francis is set to arrive in the country on January 15 and will stay until January 19.
The Roman Catholic Church has lined up several activities in Manila and Tacloban City (Leyte) in connection with the papal visit.
The local government of Manila earlier canceled classes in all levels and work in government offices in the city during the papal visit.
Executive Order 75 signed by Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada states that the suspension of work in government offices and classes has been recommended “to ensure public order and convenience.”
Pope Francis’ itinerary includes a visit to Malacanang Palace, Manila Cathedral, Rizal Park and University of Santo Tomas.
