30 hurt in EDSA crash


AT least 30 passengers were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in Makati City (Metro Manila) Monday morning.

Laila Marcelo of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic base said the collision involved a van, a cab, a motorcycle and three passenger buses.

The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. along the northbound lane of EDSA-Ayala that has always been troubled with traffic jams.

The crash worsened the traffic jams in the area.

Ambulances and towing vehicles from MMDA, and Makati rescue and volunteer groups were immediately deployed. The victims were brought to the Ospital ng Makati, Rizal Medical Center and Makati Medical Center.

The Makati Traffic Bureau and Highway Patrol Group were still investigating the incident as of press time.

Meanwhile, the MMDA announced that its anti-illegal parking and clearing team will conduct a day-long operation in the vicinity of the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center Manila today at 5:30 a.m.

This is in line with the agency’s mandate to ensure the smooth flow of traffic in Metro Manila following numerous complaints of netizens regarding obstructions on several streets in the area.
