30 killed as soccer fans clash with police in Egyptian capital

CAIRO: At least 30 people were killed when hardcore football fans of Zamalek SC clashed with Egyptian police before a game of the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday, Egyptian media quoted medics as saying. Egyptian prosecutors said the victims’ bodies were transferred to a morgue in Cairo. The state news agency MENA said at least 25 people were injured. “They died of suffocation and stampede after being tear-gassed,” Ahram Online was told by a medical source at the Ahli Bank Hospital, which received 14 bodies.
