AT least 30 persons are arrested each day for violating the nationwide Election Gun Ban that took effect on January 10. Figures from the PNP National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC) said that the number of Gun Ban violators nears the 900 mark on Friday, with 883 cases recorded. Of the number, about 850 were civilians, seven PNP personnel, 10 elected or government official, 11 security guards, two militiamen and four are members of other Law Enforcement Agency – National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor said arrested could be facing charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code with imprisonment of up to six years.
