More than 300 swimmers including 100 tankers from Manila are seeing action in the one-day event which will serve as tryout for tournaments in Hong Kong and Singapore as well as the 2015 Summer Universiade in South Korea.
Commodore Jaime Jimenez Jr. warmly welcomed the participants from Aklan, Laguna, Quezon City, Manila, Pasay, Lucena, Quezon province, Marikina, Albay, Naga, Legazpi, among others.
“This will be our second regional meet outside of Manila. This competition will also be part of the tryout for Uni–versiade. We will give everyone a chance to be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity to compete against the best college students in the world,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
Among the notable Manila tankers are Charles Ticbaen, Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh, Iniaki Emil Lorbes and Emanuel Joshua Lorbes, who are all veteran of international tournaments.
“The winners will be awarded gold, silver, bronze medal and most outstanding swimmers will be awarded trophies. Team championship will be awarded to the top three teams,” added Papa.
The PSL, the national sports association for swimming of the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP), holds the tournament in an effort to discover fresh talents.
FESSAP is the recognized body of the International Sports Federation (FISU) and is working closely with the PSL, the only organization that has a longest organized swimming grassroots developmental program in the Philippines.
“The main objective of the PSL is parallel to FISU—Excellence in Body and Mind. This tryout in open to all and no membership is required,” added Papa.
