3,500 QC students vie in Rotary art contest

Some 3,500 elementary and high school students will be competing in various fields that will showcase the best of Philippine culture and arts in the 22nd Alay ng Rotary sa Araw ng Kabataan (RoCK-Alay), an annual arts and culture competition sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kamuning (RoCK).

The event takes place on February 20, 2016 at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.

“The RoCK-Alay program for the youth aims to inspire the elementary and high school
students to engage and excel in Filipino arts and culture, to renew memories of our tradition; and to harness their talents towards excellence in their chosen field,” RoCK President Siegfred ‘Yeye’ L. Manaois said.

Participants will compete in the drum and lyre competition, rondalla competition, vocal solo singing, chorale singing, on the spot painting, and interpretative dancing.

Started in 1994, the RoCK-Alay event aims to give students a day to enjoy and be free from their toil in school and develop their sense of sportsmanship, teamwork, creativity, self-confidence and discipline.

The RoCK-Alay competition is held in coordination with the district 3780 of the Rotary International, Quezon City government, and Division of City Schools.

One of the event’s sponsors is Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, a past president of RoCK.

Some 7,000 people are expected to attend the day-long RoCK-Alay event.

Admission is free.
