OVER 300 private higher education institutions have applied for an increase in tuition and other school fees, the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) disclosed on Friday.
CHEd Chairperson Dr. Patricia Licuanan said 353 private colleges and universities nationwide have applied for increased tuition and other school fees for this school year.
Of that number, 75 are from the National Capital Region (NCR), 46 from the Region IV-A (Calabarzon), 41 from Region III, 33 from Region XI, 25 from Region VI, 23 from Region I, 21 from Region VII, 19 from Region X, 18 from Region V, 12 from Region XII, 11 from Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR), 9 from Regions II and IV-B, and 6 from Regions Region IX and Caraga region.
The CHEd data showed that no private school from the Yolanda-battered Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) has applied to raise tuition and other school fees this year. The region was heavily devastated by the supertyphoon last November.
The CHEd Regional Offices are expected to submit to the central office their verified and approved lists on or before May 15. The number of the approved applications for tuition hikes will be released before the end of this month.
Last year, CHEd approved the applications of the 354 private universities and colleges to tuition increase and other school fees.
