BAGUIO CITY: The advocacy on voluntary blood donation is gaining headway here with 36,900 cc of different blood types from 82 donors collected during the World Blood Donors Day held last June 14 at the Baguio Convention Center. With the theme “Thank you for Saving my Life” and the slogan “Give Freely, Give Often, Blood Donation Matters, the activity was spearheaded by the Baguio City Blood Council together with the Philippine Red Cross–Baguio Chapter. Local Red Cross administrator Annie Tamayo said the blood collected will be processed in laboratories for patients who are in need of blood. Dr. Leon Si Kua, a hematologist specialist, said among the benefits of donating blood include reduction in the risk of heart disease. Also, those donating blood can avail of free check up for blood pressure and cholesterol level, two of the major risk factors of heart disease.
