39 PH tankers plunge into action in Royal Bangkok meet


BANGKOK: Thirty-nine Filipino young swimmers will be vying for medals in the 2013 Royal Bangkok Swimming Championships beginning today at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club here.

They will compete in eight categories—6-year-old under, 7-year-old, 8-year-old, 9-year-old, 10-year-old, 11 and 12 years, 13 and 14 years, and 15-year-old and over.

Leading the team are University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion Claire Adorna of University of the Philippines, and Palarong Pambansa gold medalists McTracy John Alindogan and Sean Terence Zamora.

“We’re optimistic of our campaign here. We will bring home the bacon with our 39 swimmers on the go. We prepared for it and our boys and girls are hundred percent ready for this tournament,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

Also seeing action are Yuri Ilustre, Jackelyn Calvadores, Nathan Cheng, Lans Donato, Marc Dula, Charize, Esmero, Emannuel Lorbes, Inaki Lorbes, Andrea Pacheco, Joy Rodgers, Charles Ticbaen, Vaughn Aquino, Jeffrey Azor, John Henry Calma, Christine de Luna, Maria del Moro, Christina Jugno, Jana Laurian, Lowestein Lazaro, Michael Lozada, Sidley Malumay, Enya Mercurio, Micaela Palces, Willy Pelongco, John Rala, Pilo Ramirez, Paul Ramirez, Felice Reyes, Kyla Soguilon, Paul Tiples, Ira Tirol, Emundo Tolentino Jr., Paula Villamil, Mae Villamil and Jaz Villanueva.

“This is a good venue to gauge their skills since this event will be participated by some of the region’s best swimmers. Our swimmers are raring to get into action. They’re all motivated and excited to win medals,” added Papa.

Joining Papa in the delegation are former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, Susan Benasa, Rodrigo Ong, Grace Dulalia, Guia Llaguno, Richard Robles, Virgilio de Luna, Alex Papa, Joel Villa, Michael Recel, Bernardino Alindogan, Wilfredo Pelongco, Ephraim Rivera and Manuel de Leon Jr.

Last August, the PSL swimmers won 50 golds, 42 silvers and 30 bronzes in the 2013 Singapore International Age Group Swimming Championships held at the Singapore Island Country Club.

They also grabbed nine golds, three silvers and two bronzes in the Long Course 2013 Phuket Swim Championship held at the Thanyapura Sports Club in Thanyapura, Phuket in Thailand last April.
