The annual Consular Ball is the highlight of the International community’s diplomatic calendar in the Philippines. Now on its 39th year, the highly anticipated event was celebrated at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-La Hotel on December 6.

As always, the ball was a success from the attendance to program, and of course, the raffle prizes.

More than 550 guests filled the beautifully decorated Rizal Ballroom, and took part of the program proper emceed by celebrity host Johnny Litton.

Consular Corps Outgoing Dean Dr. George Yang, Honorary Consul General of Eritrea, delivered his valedictory remarks thanking the Executive and Advisory Boards, all committee chairmen and members for their support in Corps activities of the year.

Vice Dean Tetsuro Amano, Minister, Deputy Chief of Mission and Consul General of Japan, delivered his acceptance remarks as incoming Dean of the Corps for 2015 and presented outgoing Dean Yang with an Award of Merit for leadership of the Corps in 2014.

Seen throughout the night were dignitaries from the diplomatic community led by some ambassadors, eminent personalities of Philippine society and some media friends.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Linglingay Lacanlale and her husband, Dr. Agerico, were the guests of honor at the Dean’s table. With them were the top major donors of the ball, Felix and Grace Ang of CATS Motors; Dr. Francis Chua, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Chairman Emeritus and Peru Honorary Consul General, and wife Tanzania Honorary Consul Betty Ang Ball co-chairman, both representing 2GO Group of Companies; Kevin Tan, first vice president of Megaworld Corp., with wife Michelle; and Arthur Lopez, president of the Hotel Federation of the Philippines.

As in previous years, the United States consular officers and their guests, led by Ambassador Philip Goldberg and Consul General Donna Blair, former Corps Vice Dean, comprised the largest contingent.

To spice up and make the evening more exciting and memorable, a fantastic array of valuable prizes that included airline tickets, cruise ship accommodations, gift certificates to resorts, and various products and services were raffled off by Consul General Ledesma and ball Co-Chair Agnes Huibonhoa, Gambia Honorary Consul.

With delectable menu prepared and served by the Shangri-La food and beverage team and a superb selection of wines and liquor, as well as dance music provided by bands Marcy David and the Spirit of ’67, everyone looks forward the next Consular Ball.
