Four passengers of a mini-bus died while 33 others were injured in a road crash with a Ceres Liner bus at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Sitio Ipil, Barangay Pilar, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental. The Hinigaran Municipal Police Station identified the fatalities as Claudio Lowell Jagolina, fare collector of the mini-bus; Henry Pendon, 52; Alfonso Jonaldo; and Wilma Medalla, 23, reported to be pregnant. Sr. Supt. Milko Lirazan, director of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, said eight of the 33 were seriously injured. Initial police investigation showed the Ceres bus, traveling from Cebu to Bacolod, hit the rear part of the mini-bus driven by Rufino Banga, 55, which tried to avoid the larger bus. Banga, who sustained minor injuries, and Ceres bus driver Jonathan Maghari, 54, are detained at the Hinigaran police jail pending further investigation.
