FOUR persons were killed and eight others were arrested in a drug buy-bust encounter in Quiapo, Manila early Tuesday morning, police said.
Chief Inspector Leandro Gutierrez, Plaza Miranda Community Precinct commander, said the “Double Barrel Reloaded” was conducted about 12:15 a.m. along Fraternal and Castillejos streets together with elements of the Barbosa and Alvarez police community precincts and the Manila Police District Special Operations Unit under Supt. Jay Mimaandal.
Those killed were identified as Rickmark Barredo, 22; Antonio Sayno, 45; Elizalde Villanueva, 46; and Kenji Pineda, 26.
Barredo, Sayno, and Villanueva were rushed to Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital but were declared dead on arrival at about 12:45 a.m. by attending physician Patrick Avellana.
Pineda was brought to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival by Rizza Cabarfin at about 1:45 a.m.
Recovered from the gunmen were two .45 pistols (Smith and Wesson, and Colt with serial number 361352), .38 revolver, and .22 Colt revolver.
Arrested were Ofelia Gatdula, 59; Teresita Lalic, 63; Odransele Upaga, 40; Alberto Corteza, 37; Mark Lalic, 19; GlomARI Manansala, 18; Jomael Badtuan, 18; and Errestor De Guzman, 18, all neighbors along Fraternal and Castillejos streets.
Confiscated from them were five pieces of unsealed sachets of shabu, two pieces of heat-sealed sachets of shabu, two pieces of rolled aluminum with traces of shabu, a piece stripped aluminum with foil, and empty plastic sachet.
They were charged in violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act, particularly maintaining a drug den, possession of illegal drugs, equipment, instrument, apparatus, and paraphernalia before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
