The Philippines will send four athletes to the 2nd World Singles Bowling Championship slated on December 2 to 9 in Doha, Qatar.
Raoul Miranda, Ivan Dominic Malig, Maria Lara Posadas and Krizzhia Lyn Tabora comprised the national squad trained by no less than four-time World Cup champion Rafael Nepomuceno, Asian Master titlist Engelberto Rivera and world champion Jojo Canare.
The four bowlers are among the 144 athletes – 88 men and 56 women – from 50 countries competing in the World Bowling Congress-sanctioned tournament to be played at the Doha Bowling Center.
Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) President Steve Hontiveros said both Nepomuceno and Rivera have a wealth of experience to share with the Qatar-bound athletes.
“Hopefully, our athletes can live up to expectation and bring honor to the country. I wish them all the best of luck in Qatar,” said Hontiveros.
The Philippine Sports Commission headed by Chairman William Ramirez has allocated P1 million for the participation of the bowling team in Qatar.
The World Singles Bowling Championship is part of the bowling team’s preparation for the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia and the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
