4 killed in foiled supermarket robbery in Pasig

At least four people were killed when armed men attempted to rob a mall supermarket in Rosario, Pasig City on Saturday night.

Eastern Police Director Miguel Laurel identified those killed as merchandiser Nonie Onas and security guards Melanie Velga and Frederick Perez Jr. and Hernani Lupera, a former security guard at the Robinson’s supermarket.

Police said Lupera asked an employee to let him and his three companions enter the supermarket at around 11 p.m.

Once inside the supermarket’s main office, Lupera’s group declared a robbery.

Onas, Velga, Perez and information clerk Daisy Devanadera tried to put up a fight, forcing Lupera and his group to shoot at them.

A security guard, Juanito Bordadora, repeatedly struck Lupera with a metal pipe.

When the three other suspects saw their fallen colleague, they panicked and left without opening the office vault.

Laurel said investigators were analyzing footage from surveillance cameras.

Pasig police chief Sr. Supt. Mario Rariza Jr. said the footage showed four men entering the supermarket through the delivery bay.
