Manila Police District Director Chief Supt. Ronaldo Nana has ordered the investigation of four police officers involved in the killing of an alleged robber.
Nana on Wednesday placed on floating status Mannan Caracas Muarip, the commander of the Sampaloc Police Station who signed a dubious police spot report on the incident.
One of the police officers involved was Senior Insp. Rommel Salazar. The three others are yet to be identified.
Five service firearms were turned over to the MPD Headquarters for ballistic examination. The pistols belong to Salazar and PO1 Landoy, PO1 Landrito, PO3 Valera, and PO1 Dipacina.
The spot report said the shooting incident took place at 11:45 p.m. along Sociego Street.
Before the shooting, two unidentified men robbed Steven de Leon, 45, a village councilor of 1036 Samar Street, Balic-Balic, Sampaloc. After grabbing the victim’s pouch bag that contained P1,000 cash and a cellular phone, the robbers engaged Salazar’s group in a gun battle. One of the suspects was killed.
However, a CCTV footage that captured the incident showed that the alleged robber had his hands raised in surrender when he was shot.
He died instantly.
