4 Manila taxpayers face raps


The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed separate criminal complaints before the Department of Justice against four delinquent taxpayers who cost the government multi-million pesos in revenue loss. Charged for violating the Tax Code were Maria Cheryl Corpus Lagat of 2404 Rizal Avenue and Blumentritt Street, Santa Cruz, Manila and Eduardo Socuaje Jr., proprietor of Gold East Trading on Regina Building, Binondo. Lagat has a total tax liability for 2010 amounting to more that P16 million, while Socuaje was found with over P27-million unpaid taxes and penalties, also for 2010. Also charged for violation of various provisions of the Tax Code were Hanwell Industrial Corp. Inc., in Santa Cruz, Manila, with its president Felix Chung Lopez and treasurer Maribeth Lopez and Jin Hung Bijou Art, Inc. in Tondo, and its president Anavette Guevarra. Hanwell, engaged in retail and wholesale of industrial products, was found with total tax liability of more than P4million while Jin Hung incurred over P9 million in unpaid taxes.
