• 4 NPA rebels snagged after Negros Oriental skirmish

ELITE government troops captured four New People’s Army (NPA) rebels following a firefight early dawn Saturday in a Guihulngan City village in Negros Oriental province, military reports said.

Reports sent to Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila, said the encounter between troops of the army’s 3rd Scout Ranger Company and NPA rebels occurred at around 12:50 a.m. at Sitio Hinobaan, Brgy. Plagatasanon.
The report identified the captured rebels as Jessie Abing, 26, alias ‘Gamay’; Thomas Isugan, 19 alias ‘Edel’: Dandy Demerin, 18, and Ricardo Ricanillo, 37 and all are natives of Negros Oriental.

Scout Ranger troops were conducting security patrol operations to check the reported presence of armed men in the area when rebels opened fire on them triggering a gun battle, the reports said.

The reports said the firefight lasted for about 15 minutes with the NPA rebels withdrawing to two different directions leaving behind four of their comrades that were eventually captured by government troops.

The four admitted during tactical interrogation that they were NPA members operating in Negros Island, the reports said.

Seized from the four were one M14 rifle; two hand grenades; seven backpacks with jungle hammocks and personal items; one medical kit; seven ponchos of food stuffs and subversive documents.

The four rebels were turned over by government troops to the custody of the Guihulngan City Police office for medical check-up; proper documentations and filing of appropriate charges, the reports said.

The commander of the army’s 3rd Infantry Division, Brig. General Aurelio Baladad, commended the troops for their professionalism and observance of human rights in handling the four captured NPA rebels.

“We intensify our Bayanihan operations and we ensure that our soldiers are more responsible, determined and focused towards the accomplishment of mandated mission without violation of any law,” Baladad said.
