AT least four volcanic earthquakes were recorded on Negros Island’s Kanlaon Volcano over the past 24 hours said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday.
The Phivolcs bulletin at 8 a.m., yesterday also observed moderate emission of white steam plumes that rose up to 150 meters high above the summit crater before drifting to the southwest.
Mt. Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 1, meaning the volcano is at an abnormal condition and is in a period of current unrest following a minor steam explosion Monday night.
The local government units and the public were reminded by Phivolcs to strictly keep the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) due to possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Civil aviation authorities have also advised aircrafts to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit.
Meanwhile, a Polish mountaineer named Anna Hodson and her guide Balmerie Villar who were reported missing Tuesday have been located and found safe from their trek to the crater.
The two said they lost signal in the area that made it difficult for authorities to contact them through their phones as of Tuesday evening until 9 a.m., of Wednesday were the authorities got to call and alerted them.
