Four suspected drug pushers were killed in an armed encounter while one was arrested in a separate buy-bust over the weekend. Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr., acting Bulacan Police provincial director, identified the slain suspects as Rod Mendoza, 55, and Paul Bergonio, both of Barangay Poblacion Norzagaray; Reynaldo Balingit, 58, of Barangay Catmon, Malolos City; and another suspect who remains unidentified. The arrested suspect was identified as Lovely Calong, 33, live-in partner of Balingit. Supt. Rizalino Andaya, Norzagaray chief of police, said the armed clash ensued during a buy-bust at dawn on Sunday that killed Mendoza and Bergonio, who engaged law enforcers in a shootout. In San Rafael town, Supt. Angel Garcillano said elements of the 1st Maneuver Platoon of Bulacan Provincial Public Safety Company were manning a checkpoint in Barangay Caingin in San Rafael when the unidentified suspect refused to get off from a black Suzuki motorcycle (7034 CI) and instead fired at the lawmen. Malolos City police chief and Supt. Heryl Bruno said Balingit was killed during a buy-bust on Saturday when he opened fire at the lawmen. The encounter also resulted in the arrest of his live-in partner.
