FOUR soldiers were wounded during a clash with members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in a remote village in Loreto town in Agusan del Sur last Thursday, military reports said.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo on Saturday said that members of the army’s 26th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol operations at around 2pm on Thursday in Barangay Binucayan in Loreto town, Agusan del Sur.
The government patrol hit a landmine then engaged a group of communist rebels in a gunfight that lasted for several minutes.
The soldiers who were wounded in the explosion were rushed to the Patin-ay Hospital in Prosperidad town in Agusan del Sur for medical treatment.
The military reports said that troops were conducting security patrol operation in the area after receiving reports from concerned residents of the presence of a group of unidentified armed men.
The report added that troops were able to recover four backpacks, a raincoat, tent, assorted empty shells of high-powered firearms, SIM cards and a medical kit.
Civilians also reported that there were wounded NPA members, and that the rebels were extorting money from residents in the area.
