4 soldiers injured in NPA attack

ZAMBOANGA CITY: A roadside bombing carried out by alleged New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Compostela Valley left four soldiers wounded, military officials reported on Tuesday. They said the soldiers were on board a moving truck when the bomb, believed to be planted by the NPA, was detonated on a highway near the village of Cabuyoan in Mabini town on Monday. There was no statement from either the military or the NPA, but the attack came at the same time that the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police declared a month-long yuletide ceasefire with the rebels. The unilateral truce would allow troops and policemen to celebrate the holiday season with their families, but the cease-fire will not affect ongoing law enforcement operations against the rebels and their supporters.
