• 4 suspected HIV carriers reported in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY: The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has warned that there are four suspected carriers of Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( HIV) in Ilocos Norte to date.

The PHO said that of the four carriers, two are from Laoag City and one each from Batac City and Dingras town.

This prompted Laoag City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas to ask the PHO to identify the two suspected carriers in Laoag so that the city can give them proper treatment and to prevent the spread of the disease.

However, the Laoag City mayor clarified that once the two suspected HIV carriers were identified, their names will be withheld for security and other reasons.

HIV is a dreaded virus that causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a condition in humans marked by the progressive failure of the immune system to react, thus allowing the life-threatening opportunistic infections and cancer to thrive in the person’s body.

Doctors said HIV can be transferred through the blood system, semen, vaginal fluid, and breast milk. PNA
