ILOILO CITY: The Department of Health (DOH) regional office here reported a total of five cases of stray bullet injuries for the 2015 New Year celebrations. All five opted to go home as the bullet wounds were not serious enough for a hospital confinement. The DOH reported a total of 148 cases related to firecrackers: 15 in Aklan, 7 in Antique, 11 in Capiz, 37 in Iloilo, 29 in Negros Occidental, 3 in Guimaras, 22 in Bacolod City and 24 in Iloilo City. The DOH also reported at least 18 types of firecrackers sold in the region. Despite ban on firecrackers, people, mostly children, enjoy setting off firecrackers during the New Year celebrations. The local firecrackers are bilong-bilong, piccolo, 5-star, boga, pill box, chistle bomb, triangle, camara, kwitis, fountain, Roman candle, sparkler, candlebomb, home made, GSW, grenade and bawang.
