5 dead in Batangas bakery morning fire


BATANGAS CITY: Five workers were killed and another one is missing after a fire gutted a bakery in Taal town on Sunday morning.

According to authorities, an electrical wiring exploded at 2:30 a.m. and sparks reached the second floor of Raiylens bakery in Barangay Bihis.

The bakery was reported to be made from wooden materials.

The lone survivor, identified as Gerry Paz, said six of his colleagues were trapped inside the bakery and identified them as Bea Lunaflor, Renelyn Teoxon, Ruffa Fortes, Rosebee Cadiong, Josie Afable and Jomarie Bernales.

Police, however, recovered only five cadavers, which were beyond recognition, and declared one person missing.

Bureau of Fire Protection officials declared the fire under control at 4:45 .m.

Scene of the Crime Operatives are investigating to establish the identity of the victims.
