5 injured as ambulance, train collide in Manila

Five persons, including a pregnant woman, were injured when the ambulance they were riding slammed into a train of the Philippine National Railways (PNR) on Friday afternoon, according to the Manila Traffic Bureau.

The pregnant woman was identified as Marilou Vallas Sayco, 35. She later gave birth to a boy at the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, a hospital guard who requested anonymity said.

Others injured were Jaime Pagas, 41; Perla Vizcaya, Sally Marcelo and Eduardo Marcelo, the bureau said.
The ambulance, with plate number NI-4366, was marked Barangay 162 Llano Ambulance, Caloocan City, the bureau said. It was bringing Sayco to the hospital because she was due to deliver her baby.

It was crossing Blumentritt Street corner Rizal Avenue at 3:45 p.m. when it collided with the south-bound train that came from Tutuban.

All five were thrown out of the ambulance due to the impact of the collision that also left the vehicle a total wreck, according to the bureau.
