A former soldier held hostage for seven hours eight persons, five of them children, in Barangay 132, Pasay City on Wednesday. According to reports, suspect Christopher Magsusay, 56, had an argument with his partner identified as Fely Igonia at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday. When their neighbors heard some shots fired, they called the police for assistance. However, when the responding team arrived, Magsusay reportedly took eight hostages to his house and refused to free them despite the pleas for him to surrender and free his captives. Taken hostage were couple Baldo and Jonnelle Veloso, their three children aged 1, 3, and 8 years old; Veloso’s brother Jose, 21; and two other children, 1 and 3 years old. It was only at around noon when four children scampered to safety after the police traded gunshots with the suspect. Magsusay, who was wounded, was taken to a hospital and heavily guarded.
