5 killed, 15 injured in Bukidnon road mishaps

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY: Five people were killed, 15 others injured in a road mishap in Talakag, Bukidnon past 5:00 p.m Sunday.

Police Insp. Edwin Mondalo, head of the Talakag Police Station, identified three of those who died on arrival at the Talakag Hospital as Irish Mae Napay, Ethel Talaroc, and Blessel Corneta.

The two other victims Ricardo Napay, a barangay Kagawad in Talakag, and an unidentified woman, died at the city hospital in Cagayan De Oro City.

The injured were Jovy Mae Allera, Samantha Fe Allera, Rex Napay, one year old, Arnold Paano, driver, and Paano’s two sons who served as conductors “Arnel and Arkem,” Neil Lumigue, Perlita Labial, and Jimmy Macia, all confined at the Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan De Oro City while Florencio Sabugaa, and his wife Emma and daughter Emma Flor were at the JR Borja General Hospital.

Two other victims who were in critical condition at the Maria Reyna Hospital, also in Cagayan De Oro City were Leah Mae Napay, wife of Ricardo, and their 13-year-old son Ryan.

Mondalo said the accident took place in Barangay San Isidro in Talakag while a prime utility vehicle with Plate No. PUV-347 with a trailer carrying a 40-footer van was negotiating a sharp downward curve on its way to Cagayan De Oro City when it figured in a collision with a passenger jitney.

The passenger jitney was heading to the Talakag town center from Cagayan De Oro City when, after the collision, the 40-footer van from the trailer truck gave way — hitting and ripping the passenger jitney’s left side that now looked like a crumpled tin can, witnesses told the police.

Mondalo said that Angelito Parangin, the driver of the prime utility vehicle, of Tagolo-an, Misamis Oriental, voluntarily surrendered to the police in the village of Lumbia in Cagayan De Oro.

He said that the police are still conducting investigation of the incident. PNA
