5 killed, 2 missing in landslides in Central Java, Indonesia

JAKARTA: Indonesian rescuers have discovered five bodies and are still searching for two others after landslides hit Purworejo district of Central Java on Friday night, a rescuer said on Saturday. Heavy downpours triggered the soil erosion on a hill at Penungkulan village of Gebang sub-district at around 8 p.m. Jakarta time, which hit at least 2 houses, spokesman of National Search and Rescue Office named only Marsudi said. “Rescue team from Central Java office along with soldiers, police and volunteers are searching for the missing persons now,” he told Xinhua by phone. Landslides are frequent in Indonesia during heavy rainfalls, leaving scores of casualty and damages.
