Five Filipino mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters will show their mental and physical toughness in ONE: Quest for Greatness slated on August 18 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Team Lakay bet Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon will lead the Filipino fighters, as he tests his mettle against Filipino-Australian Reece “Lightning” McLaren in the bantamweight division.
Belingon, who holds a professional 15-5 win-loss record, is known as a fierce competitor able to finish off his opponents in a variety of methods.
In his last outing, Belingon stopped Finnish grappling sensation Toni “Dynamite” Tauru with a volley of devastating strikes.
McLaren, meanwhile, fell short against Bibiano Fernandez in a tight split decision during his last fight.
Another Team Lakay standout Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly will see action against American Emilio “The Honey Badger” Urrutia in the featherweight contest.
Regarded as one of the brightest featherweight prospects to emerge from the Philippines, Kelly has won his last three outings all by spectacular finishes and currently holds nine wins and three losses.
Fighting out of Iloilo City, 26-year old Robin Catalan is set to face former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke of Thailand.
Catalan owns a record of six wins and two losses (two of victories are by submission and two by knockout).
Meanwhile, Catalan’s older brother, Rene “The Challenger” Catalan is looking for his third straight victory as he goes against Bu Huo You Ga of China.
The 38-year old Catalan is a 2006 Asian Games wushu sanshou gold medalist and made his ONE Championship debut in 2013. Since then, Catalan has amassed two wins and two losses including one no contest fight.
The main event of ONE: Conquest of Greatness will feature the match between undefeated ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov of Russia and top contender Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen of Australia. JEAN RUSSEL V. DAVID
