Five members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) accused of extortion have been relieved from their posts.
QCPD Acting District Director Sr. Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said extortion charges have been filed against the five policemen — PO1 Michael Gragasin; Sr. Insp. Benjamin Mayor, SPO3 Archimedes Marzan, PO2 Alex Chocowen and PO1 Jeron de Dios. All five are from the Masambong Police Station (PS-2).
Gragasin was arrested by operatives of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) headed by Supt. Rogarth Campo in an entrapment operation on August 20, 2016.
He was arrested after receiving money from Josephine Pineda, partner of tricycle driver Zaldy Roda, who was earlier arrested for alleged possession of dangerous drugs.
Pending resolution of their case, the policemen were transferred to the District Headquarters Support Unit at Camp Karingal, Quezon City.
Eleazar said administrative charges were also filed against the policemen.
“We will not tolerate rogues in our ranks and will take drastic and immediate action once they are pinpointed. It is good that the incident was reported immediately and the complaint promptly filed. It will help us cleanse our ranks of scalawags,” he said.
